Hello Anna. First of all, We would like to thank you for organizing this event, and of course for taking the time to answer these questions from Denmark!
Anna Smiles and flushes briefly.
First of all, we would like a couple of thoughts on the demand that everyone is supposed to contribute.
So what do you count as contributing? Is it ok, to write a blog during the event or how about running a sneaky bar with cheap Danish beer?
All of these examples are great and fully approved. As long as you submit it in the website so that everybody on KP can get info about it. What ever you think would make KP better.
If you write a blog, twitter, or write an article in a magazine in your country after KP or videotape presentations, then you are a documenter.
We have a special page on the KP-site - called Docs - where you can add links, materials or what you wish. Before KP, just add your plan there so it is public to everyone what you are doing and you can inspire other people.
Another fully approved contribution is to stand on our fair - the Larp plaza - to do PR for you association, book, larp, database etc. During two hours there will be no other programme but a fair, a plaza, where you can stand an advertise your thing.
That sounds nice. Very much like the thing on Forum08 a couple of years back. Only bigger
Also, what is your opinion on the quality of the contributions when people like me don’t feel they have anything to say, or are too shy to speak up?
I think it depends on what KP we want. We don't want a KP where the only ones who feel they can contribute are the ones that work with larp 24-7. We want a KP where people can experiment and try new ideas, and for that workshops and games are great, that is why we do “Show not Tell”. You don't need to be able to talk for two hours about your reseach, but rather, maybe do a workshop where you experiment about a new idea you had.
And we also want to encourage recycling. If you played a great game in your country, or been at a wokrshop, take the concept and do it at KP. With people from 20 countries there are a lot that haven't played it before.
I got a mail for someone I consider one of the smart and cool guys who was nervous with what he should be able to contribute with. Will KP be so elitist in a couple of year so it is only the people who have done years of research or work professionally with this who feel they can do something? This doesn't create a creative environment where new ideas could flow. By forcing everybody to contribute we will get a wider aspect of knowledge than just the usual ones.
So if we can be the evil organizer who pushes people a bit, it also gives people and excuse to do things - that is just great.
But if you feel you really don't want to do anything I would encourage the co-host function. You can ask a friend of yours that are doing something if you could co-host with that person. Then you can co-host by holding her paper of bringing her coffee. This will result in that you are more involved in the organizing process, and probably it will be less scary for you next year to organize your self.
The next question goes for the theme: "show not tell".
Are you steeled about this, and does it mean that no traditional speaks are allowed (at all), or just that you would really like people to do something else?
Speaks are absolutely allowed, but restricted to one hour blocks. The plan is simply to make people think one extra time before they do a speak since it often becomes default.
So instead of talking about you new gaming technique - let people try it out in a workshop and people might actually remember it and use it at home.
We also feel that since the larp-movement take pride in that what we do is interactive and participatory etc, it is not culture where people are passive spectators, it seems strange that on KP we are all turned into passive spectators. Sometimes it might be necessary, but we would like to challenge people to think in alternative directions to make thing participatory.
Also, does it mean that passive listening to all the clever people is forbidden and that people has to participate actively in every programme point that they attend to?
The point is really to encourage a more diverse programme with new organizers, recycling and a more active one with show, not tell - we hope to increase the interest in the program and in the long run increase the interest for KP.
We hope, people will participate, but if you really don’t have anything to add, you are free to enjoy the show instead.
The final topic is A Week In. We are not sure if there are two A Weeks this year. And also, do we need to sign up for the Weeks? And how about accommodation?
A lot of the tasks at this years KP is outsourced. That is why the book is done separately by Elge, and the Week also is done by others.
Andie Nordgren and Johanna Koljonen were planing what they called a Nordic Scene week. As I understood it they wanted to do things to reach the general Swedish public, like lectures in cooperation with theaters etc. I haven't heard anything in a while so I don't know what is happening there.
Felicia Östlin and Elli Åhlvik on the other hand are organizing a more classical week and just published an activity schedule here; http://www.knutpunkt.se/week/activities
I think their ambition is to try to find places for everybody to stay, so if you want to join A Week - e-mail them at a.week.in.stockholm@gmail.com
Then I am sure they will be happy to help you.
And then the practical stuff.
The rooms, that we will be sleeping in (not the hotel rooms, since they are now full), are they at the central location, or removed?
It is not far. Fiskeboda is a lot of different cottages with 10-30 beds each. Some of them are as close as the hotel rooms, central, and some are a few minuts walk. I think maximum five to the one most distant.
Ok. Thank you very much for the replies. We will definitely be going this year, so see you in Stockholm!
